Viriditas is a Christian contemplative center that offers opportunities and resources for individuals to deepen their relationship with God and learn to live contemplatively within their everyday lives.
Daily contemplative prayer times, spiritual direction, workshops, and resources are offered online and in Southwest Idaho. We are welcoming to people of all faith traditions.
The word, Viriditas, means “greenness” in Latin. Saint Hildegard von Bingen, a mystic and Benedictine abbess of the Middle Ages, used this term to describe the greening power of God - the life giving qualities of God's Spirit in matter - and engaged the image of nature’s vitality and greenness as a symbol for the soul’s own vigor. The soul which allows God to infuse it is verdant, moist, alive. She believed that you must nourish your inner life, keep it green. Without such attention, it would become brittle, dry up and die.
